This represents the original H Formula and has not changed in over 50 years. This Predict display will show ratings to use when predicting results. Listed will be the track, number of the race, Number of horses in the race, the date, distance in furlongs, surface ( dirt or turf ), race type ( which includes maidens , claiming , allowance , age and sex restrictions) , and the amount of the purse and the projected order of finish. The horses will be listed in rows with the number one pick at the top, the second pick second, and so on. If you are into exotic betting, you can box the first three selections in the exacta and/or the first 4 selections in the trifecta, etc. I have found this to be the most powerful and useful tool for wagering. This is not a textbook on the pros and cons of exotic betting, however. Through the years, my best profits have come from boxing the first four selections.
Note: When horses scratch, just ignore that horse and the other horses slide up the list.
When there is too much speed in the race the front runners will "burn" each other out and the closers will win the race. This makes the race look like there is a superior racehorse in the race(A Silky Sullivan) passing up the entire field but in reality he is just passing tired horses. - Dr. H
Scratches may sometimes affect the too much speed condition. You can use the First Call to see the horses over the danger line and whether they scratch and eliminate too much speed.
The best bet at the races is the one that only has one speed horse in it. - Dr. H
A scratch may leave one horse above the danger line, a 5 star selection.
Unfortunately, because of a lack of statistics, first time starters and foreign shippers cannot be rated.
